Carson McCullers

Carson McCullers was an American writer. Carson’s name was actually Lula Carson Smith till she got it changed later on in life. She was born on February 19th in 1917 in Columbus Georgia. Her parents owned a jewelry store and during that time she wanted to be a musician and started taking piano classes at 10. Ever since a young age she suffered from rheumatic fever. She was always a sick child growing up. When she was experiencing these fevers she put off music and started writing stories. In 1934 she set off for New York City where she continued to chase her dream. At 19 she had her first story published in December of 1936. In August of 1967 she suffered a stroke which put her in the hospital. She was in a coma for 46 days when she finally died in September.
